Our Story
Trent La and Kayleigh Defenbaugh met on dating app Coffee Meets Bagel in the fall of 2020. Through the depths of quarantine, Kayleigh and Trent managed to find one another and form a deep connection during what many experienced as a hopeless time. Having just moved back to Houston after receiving her Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Clemson University and College of Charleston, Kayleigh was looking to set roots in her hometown. Kayleigh grew up in The Woodlands, but hadn’t been back in some 10 years. A few years earlier, in 2017, Trent too had moved back to Houston, after spending six years in the Midwest away from his close-knit family in Sugar Land.
On October 8, 2020, Trent and Kayleigh met up (with three dogs in tow) for a pandemic-friendly first date on the patio of Piggy’s. Kayleigh brought her dog, Sutter, and her parents’ Chihuahua, Pippa; Trent brought Remy. Though the dogs weren’t exactly feeling it (okay, full transparency: Pippa attacked Remy and Remy chewed through his leash in a desperate attempt to flee), Trent and Kayleigh hit it off!
As the duo got to know each other, they bonded over their love for dogs (duh!), random YouTube videos, TV (especially Reality TV - MTV for Trent and Bravo for Kayleigh), movies, hot dogs, and Tex-Mex.
Kayleigh was charmed by Trent’s love for his big family and their family businesses (shout out to Kim Son and Mama La’s Kitchen!). A lover of all-things-comedy, Trent was impressed by Kayleigh’s past experience on an improv team at the iO Theater in Chicago, as well as her appreciation for viral Tik Tok trends and hip-hop dance videos.
In all seriousness, the two found, in each other, a kind, loving, and supportive confidant and partner with the same core values and hopes for the future.
Trent proposed to Kayleigh on October 8, 2021, and now the two are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together. They are particularly excited to celebrate with their family and friends on October 29, 2022!
